This lovely antique cast iron twin bed has a timeless classic design. It was handmade more than 100 years ago.
Single-size beds are scarce because not many were made. Children would usually sleep, several together, sideways, in a three-quarter or a double bed. Once
they grew too big to stay in the bed with their siblings, they graduated to a larger bed of their own. Single cast iron beds were considered a luxury.
Single beds were originally made in three different widths: 30" or 36" or 42". This one is 36" wide and takes a modern day standard twin mattress.
During the restoration process, the old lead paint was sandblasted off and replaced with a durable baked on lead free paint in a satin black finish.
If you are planning to use this iron bed with an extra-long mattress, please let us know and we will lengthen the side rails for you.
Side rails and cross supports are included.
Headboard: 53"; Footboard: 33"; Width: 36"; Drop: 10"
Antique iron beds usually have a drop of 14". It appears that the bottom of the legs have been cut off. This may have been done because the
metal was bent or possibly rusted through if it had been sitting in water.
