Triple cast iron cameo castings highlight this bed's beauty.  It combines simple lines with a dramatic focal point.  This iron bed would look outstanding in many settings from rustic and rural to contemporary and urban.  It would also fit right into any farmhouse or century home.

At some point in its history, this antique bed was in Vermont.  Because there are no identifiable maker's marks, its full history has been lost to time.  This, sadly, is true for many of these treasured antiques.  The only identification is the letter 'H' which is embossed on each side rail.  You can see the handmade nature of this bed in the focal castings.  There are some air bubbles where gas escaped during the cooling process.  You can also see that the sand mold did not release the solidified iron casting when it was opened up.

This lovely iron bed started life as a full / double size bed and has been deftly stretched to king-size.  The side rails have also been lengthened to accommodate a king size mattress.

The original lead paint has been sandblasted off and the bedframe has been powder coated in a clear color in a satin sheen.  After the baking process, the castings cool at a different rate than the iron rods and tubing.  Because of this, the castings take on a warm bronzy tone.

Before World War 1 ended the era of iron beds, cast iron beds were handmade.  The start of the war in 1914 meant that all iron was diverted towards the war effort.  After the war, metal beds were mass produced on assembly lines and were constructed from aluminum, a metal that was much lighter and easier to work with.

Side rails and metal cross supports are included.  Antique iron beds were normally made to sit 14" off the floor.  This one only sits 10.5" off the floor indicating that at some point in its history, the feet have been removed.
