A great antique cast iron and brass double bed frame handmade around 1890. Beautiful flowing design, big castings - this full iron
bed has it all! This ornate full iron bed would hold its own in any room whether it's a large contemporary bedroom, a farmhouse or cabin. The
black finish adds a touch of panache!
The footboard, at some point it the last 130 years, was cut down and it now carries right down to the floor. I think it looks better than it would
have been with longer legs! At some point along the way, the original castings which held the side rails were damaged and were removed
when the bedframe was refinished. Instead of sitting 14" above the floor, this bed sits at a modern day height of 7" and can use a
full size box spring and mattress and still not be too high to climb into.
When it was restored, it was sandblasted to get rid of the old lead paint and then finished with a durable satin sheen lead free baked on black powder
The First World War ended the era of iron beds because it required all iron to be diverted towards the war efforts. After the war, beds were mass produced
on assembly lines and were constructed from aluminum a metal that was much easier to work with.
A modern full bedframe is included. If you already have a bedframe and wish to use it, let us know and we will deduct $100 from the price.
