This antique double / full brass and iron bed features a pleasing 'double hoop' design with great, intricate castings showcasing floral symbols. The pewter color is a neutral tone and easily fits into a variety of décor choices and color palettes.
The iron castings are very crisp which indicates this was a fairly early run of these particular casting molds. Over time, the wood molds lose
their sharpness as they come into contact with the sand casting into which the molten iron is poured. Some of the close up pictures show
areas which have little pin holes. These are actually from gas holes from when the bed was originally made.
It would have been considered a luxury iron bed not only because of the clarity of the castings, but also because of the wider diameter iron rods.
These were originally introduced to inject a masculine styling compared to some other dainty looking cast iron beds.
As with all beds from the era before World War One, this bed was handmade. The start of the war meant that all iron was diverted towards the
war effort. After the war, similarly styled beds were mass produced on assembly lines and were constructed from aluminum a metal that was much lighter
and easier to work with.
This metal bed has been refinished by sandblasting off the old lead paint and then baking on a powder coat clear finish in a satin sheen. Because the castings
take longer to cool after the baking process, they have a slightly different, warm tone to them. The pewter color is the natural color of iron.
If you are using this full iron bed frame with an extra-long full double mattress, let us know and we will lengthen the rails to accommodate the fit.
These longer rails would also take a queen size mattress, but please be aware that your box spring would overhang the edges by 3” on either side.
Side rails and cross supports are included.
Headboard: 55 1/2"; Footboard: 40 1/2"; Width: 54"; Drop: 14"
Bedding and accessories not included.
