This magnificent cast iron bed has massive oversized castings making it a rare find, possibly a one of a kind custom handmade bed.  Its first home was in a log cabin on a farm outside the small town of Alliston, Ontario.  At some later point in time, the barn on the property was converted to living space and this heavy iron bed moved some 50 feet across the yard and there it stayed until we purchased it.

It is certainly a statement piece and will hold its own in any setting from rural farmhouse to modern city dwelling.

The iron castings have been overpainted several times over the years but, once stripped down to the original iron, I think the details will be much sharper than shown in the pictures.  The feet are incredible!  I’m not sure what animal the headboard feet depict, but it was a big one.

Because of the extremely large castings this bed is also extremely heavy.  The largest casting depicts a floral bouquet in a basket.  Most of the remaining castings are floral in theme.  This is an exquisite iron bed made by a master craftsman.  It has all the flourishes of a Victorian cast iron bed.

This iron bed was handmade before the start of World War One.  When the war started in 1914, production of cast iron beds dropped significantly because iron was diverted for the war effort.  After the war, metal beds were mass produced in aluminum, a much easier and lighter metal to work with.

While it is constructed as a double size iron bed, 54” in width, you could use it with a queen size mattress because the tops of the headboard and footboard reach beyond the 54” width.  We could easily extend the side rails to accommodate the length.  Lengthened rails will also fit an extra-long double mattress.

Side rails and cross supports are included.

    Headboard:  69”;  Footboard:  47”;  Width:  54";  Drop:  14”

If you would like this antique bed restored by sandblasting and having a baked on powder coat paint applied, we can arrange that for you. It would cost an additional $300. (Additional fees may apply depending on color choice, turnaround time and special requests.)
